Lucy's Crab SHACK...

The store just got in this new fabric!!! I had to start playing with it right away!!
We have a new quilt pattern that looks like a Quilt right out of "Pottery Barn" !
Here are the pieces:

I will be teaching a workshop at Whim-so-doodle in August on how to applique and piece a quilt square.  We will make at least one of these squares in class and then I will discuss further finishing ideas.
Class Dates:  Tues. Aug. 14 6-8 Pm
Or                     Weds. Aug. 15 4-6pm
Cost:  $18   includes all materials......call to reserve a spot....727-827-4911
I decided to go ahead and make the quilt....it is in the process.....and I am liking the look!!
I also wanted to make a quilt with more "white" in it.  White seems to make the quilt more modern.  The white also makes all the other colors pop out.  I used one layer cake for the top....and I have some leftover pieces that are screaming....."banner"!!! :-)
Stop by the store to check out our new fabrics....And come see the Store's new look....."keep on SEWING"....

Karrie

It's a BIRD, it's a PLANE

School is almost out....Summer travels are almost here....

I don't know about you, but, do you like to sew?  On a plane??
I just got back from traveling to Maryland, then to Chicago.....and I decided I wanted to make something while on the airplane.  You can now travel with needles and pins...and a scissors that is smaller than 4 inches.....

Spool Sewing to the rescue....check out their website for  free tutorial on Bird Mobile.

Before traveling I cut out a bunch of Bird Patterns from all my fabulous scraps.  I then hand sewed wonderful little creatures while listening to my IPOD.  Time goes by rather quickly...
I decided to save the stuffing for when I returned home.
I have to say that I did make quite a few of these birds!!!!  Once you get going they are really quick to make....and it helps if you play some "rock n roll" tunes!!!!

And the finished piece is completed with a branch from your back yard.  What a great mobile for a nursery, or studio, or sunroom.

Spool Sewing is the originator of this pattern.
This blog is also a great tutorial.

Summerville....

New fabric has arrived from Lucie Summers.....and I want to make something!

We got in some charm packs and Layer Cakes.....and fat 1/8's.....
I have been doing a little searching online to get some ideas for this new fabric.  Lucie is from the Uk and her designs look screen printed.  She reminds me a lot like Lotta Jansdotter.   These fabrics are from Moda.......Check out this quilt from Red Pepper Quilts...
I love the addition of solids and whites....it gives the quilt a contemporary feel.  We may have to use this new line for our next beginning quilt class.  Or should we make a large travel tote??? Stay tuned for what we make!!!!

Happy MAY....Happy Planting.....

I am loving this time of year here in florida.  The weather has been amazing!!!
I do know that we will be hotter than hot soon.

But everything is blooming nicely including my orchids!!  Who would ever think that I could grow these beautiful flowers!  They love Florida!

So...this wonderful orchid gave me the inspiration for a new CROWN.....the "queen of gardening".....I have been wanting to make a crown with burlap and moss.....I use peltex for my base and I sew the burlap onto the crown with a zig zag stitch.  I purchased my flowers from the dollar store, and seperated the petals and just hot glued to the base.  I will be teaching another crown class on June 13, from 1-4 @ whim-so-doodle.....hope to see you there.

I have a feeling this crown is going to get even more embellishments!!
Keep on Gardening....

My Art Challenge Group...

I feel very fortunate that I belong to a "little" art group that gives us challenges every month...
The challenge for last month was :
Men's Tie
The tie's were thrown out on the table....
and here is my creation...
His name is "geoffrey beene"....his label of course is sewn on his back...
I found a free pattern online and shrunk it down to fit onto the lining of the tie. (his body)
Then I just made him some clothes from the actual silk tie.

Think about joining an art group....you'd be surprised what you'll make!

A Tisket a Tasket.....look at my Basket...

The finished basket will look great with all my eggs....Try something new this spring!

Basket weaving is harder than you think...

We built the structure of the "hen" basket, then soaked the reed that was dyed, then we wove and wove ...

Happy Spring....Easter's on it's way...

This Easter I have woven a basket for my fabric eggs....thanks to a wonderful workshop from Bonnie Bowman....we got to retreat to her amazing studio....filled with fibers and reed....

Hello...Happy Spring!!!
I can't believe Easter is just around the corner....
Last year we were busy making fabric Easter eggs...
